So Why Might Your Need Your Drywall Repaired?
In the yesteryears homes were made of other finishing materials such as wood, plaster and stone but as technology advances and homes are built more efficiently, nearly all homes in the midwest are finished off with drywall which hangs nicely, is extremely convenient, insulates well and provides a smooth finish throughout. In addition, drywall is sturdy but is also very easy to repair. That being said, there are times when drywall needs your attention and here are the most common reasons we get called in for repair:
Holes and Dents
There are a multitude of reasons why these can just “suddenly appear” but most often it’s due to a move and the furniture accidentally gets bumped into the wall and opens a hole, or your two young boys are rough housing and accidentally drive each others heads into the wall, maybe your doors are heavy and you accidentally drive the door knob into the side wall. These reasons are the most common accidents we see.
Especially in basements where the foundation is several decades old, maybe you were aware that a hole was beginning to open up in your foundation wall and the heavy rain found its way into your basement. Typically when this happens, the drywall absorbs water similar to the way a candle wick absorbs wax. Once the drywall has expanded and bubbled, it can no longer absorb any more water and the drywall needs to be replaced.
In these circumstances, we’ll remove drywall throughout a perimeter of the home going several feet high and then hang the replacement drywall (almost as if it were a completely new wall), place joint compound and paint the entire wall. This is a relatively straightforward drywall repair job and is one that we unfortunately see way too often.
Every house settles, and every house settles differently, but when you start noticing cracks in your drywall then it’s something you’ll want to have professionally addressed. More often than not, cracking is an aesthetic thing that can be addressed quickly and easily but sometimes there is an underlying issue that needs to be addressed before we can repair any cracks in your drywall.
